Mr.James Scott has a garage in Silbury

and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst.

Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury,

but Mr.Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage,

so he has just bought twelve pigeons

Yesterday,a pigeoncarried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury.

The bird covered the distance in three minutes.

Up to now, Mr.Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and

other urgent messages from one garage to the other.

In this way,he has begun his own private 'telephone' service.

本文语法：现在完成时

现在完成时结构：has/have+done（动词的过去分词形式）

语法归纳：

指过去已经发生的动作，可能已经完成，但对现在仍有影响，也可能还将延续，强调对现在的影响和结果。在现在完成时句子中常常存在一些重要的时间标志词，这些标志词分别是：just刚刚，recently最近，already已经，in the past过去，so far到目前为止，yet仍然，ever曾经，up till now到目前为止，since自从……以来，等等。


 

 

 

新概念英语详解：

1. Mr James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst.

詹姆斯.斯科特先生在锡尔伯里有一个汽车修理部，现在他刚在平赫斯特买下了另一个修理部。

语言点 比较学习：another,other,the other

1）another既可作形容词，也可作代词，只能用于三个或更多的人或物，泛指同类事物中三者或三者以上的“另一个”，只能代替或修饰单数可数名词。

2）other可作形容词或代词。作形容词时，意为“别的，其他”。

3）the other指两个人或物中的一个，后可加单数名词，也可加复数名词，此时的other作形容词。

 

2.Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons.

平赫斯特和锡尔伯里之间相隔仅仅5英里，但斯科特先生未能给他的新修理部搞到一部电话，因此他买了12只鸽子用来飞鸽传信。（1英里=1.609公里，5英里约合8公里）

语言点1 表达“AB两地有多远”的常用表达模式如下：

1）A is+距离 from B

2) A is+距离 away from B（注意：没有from B时可省away）

语言点2 有关“电话”的短语：

get a telephone装电话 answer a telephone接电话

telephone book/directory电话簿 telephone booth/box电话亭（美/英）

telephone operator话务员，电话接线员 telephone switchboard总机

语言点3 just一般用于完成时态，放在谓语动词之前。

 

3.Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury.

昨天，一只鸽子把第一封信从平赫斯特带到了锡尔伯里。

语言点 比较学习：carry,take,bring,transport,fetch

1)carry一般指以一种不接触地面的方式携带着

2)take以各种方式携带

3)bring带来

4)transport传送，运输

5)fetch取来（相当于"go去+pick up拿起+bring带来"三个动作）

 

4.The bird covered the distance in three minutes.

这只鸽子只用了3分钟就飞完了全程。

语言点 cover在此作“越过”讲，常用固定表达方式如下：sht./sb. cover the distance of+距离，意为“某人/某物走过或越过了……（距离）”

The Red Army covered the distance of 25,000 kilometres.红军进行了两万五千里长征。

 

5.Up to now, Mr Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other.

到目前为止，斯科特先生已经用鸽子从一个修理部向另一个修理部传送了大量索取备件的信函和其他紧急信件。

语言点1 uo to now=so far=up till now到目前为止，后常接现在完成时。

语言点2 urgent message紧急通知，加急电报；written message书面通知；greeting message贺电；贺信
